Complex Grease Formulations
Are you considering moving from mono-soap greases to complex greases? We can help you make the transition smoothly. The processes aren’t overly complicated, but there are important details to understand before you begin — and that’s where our expertise makes the difference.
Complex greases offer several advantages over their mono-soap counterparts, including:
- Higher dropping points
- Better water resistance
- In some cases, higher load bearing capability
This makes them the ideal choice where mono-soap greases are being pushed beyond their limits.
Manufacturing complex greases usually involves what’s known as the “two-hour hold.” Here, the batch is kept at a constant temperature — typically lower than that used for mono-soap saponification — for at least two hours while the complexing takes place. After this, the batch is raised to a higher peak temperature to remove volatile by-products and achieve the desired texture.
We have experience in manufacturing a range of complex greases, including:
- Lithium Complex
- Aluminium Complex
- Calcium Sulphonate Complex
For clients looking to develop these products, we can provide raw material sourcing, detailed formulations, and process protocols. We also support the development process by:
- Producing trial batches
- Liaising with raw material suppliers and accredited testing laboratories
